Tempore presented their new Windows CE based terminal  tempore collect online box.

We are happy to see such a good looking device,  some of the engineering around the operating system image was done at LieberLieber.

AMUSE provides now the functionallity to use Embedded Devices based on Compact Framework using HTTP communication between the simulation in Enterprise Architect and the state machine on an Embedded Device.

I will describe it based on a Windows Mobile 6 and “Sending a Message” example.

Mr. CE "Doug Boling" posted a little bit more on CE7 here

The big news from a technical perspective is OS support for multicore processors (I’ve run it on a 4 core ARM CPU and it rocks!) and support for up to 3 GB of physical RAM.  The new kernel also supports ARM 7 (but as a tradeoff, ARM 4 support is dropped).

Cool news – we will need lots of processor power ;)

Silverlight For Embedded, first released in CE 6 Release 3, has been updated to support Silverlight 3 constructs and is accompanied by a powerful development tool that eases the integration work to hook in the C++ code behind. Multitouch and gesture support has also been added.

Needless to say I would have prepared a managed Silverlight story – at least as a second option. Nevertheless this sounds like the tooling around the unmanaged Silverligth improved

Check out www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/products/windowsce/compact7.mspx for details.

Hope I have time to look at it on “real” Device soon!

Windows CE 7 is announced – I found this on Olivier’s Blog:

The next version of Windows Embedded CE has just been announced at Computex in Taipei today. Windows Embedded Compact 7 CTP is available for download on the Connect Website.

To read the press release, visit the Microsoft Presspass site here.

You can find the full story:

Two questions open for me at this point:

  • What about Existing CE 6.0 BSP’s
  • Will we be able to develop Silverlight in Managed Code

I found a Video showing the Asus Device from yesterday:

Just found something cool concerning Windows CE 7.  Just found on wmpoweruser.com:

ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC10

Asus has announced two new Eee Pad tablets at Computex Taipei.  The smaller 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC will be superslim at just 12.2mm in thickness and weighs 675g. It will run Windows Embedded Compact 7.

I was always excited by the long runtimes and the sunlight readability provided by Ebooks! Yet most of them are not really “programmable” – maybe with the Exception of the Rex (but hey we are not Linux C++ guys).  The EBook from Malata based on Windows CE gives you all the options – and yes if they can really keep their promise of 1 Week continuous reading their are many possibilities for LOB applications.
